The village of St. Peters sits at the
gateway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Bras D’Or Lake,
and as such plays host to yachts-people, tourists, and
celebrities from around the world. The two bodies of
water are linked via the St. Peter’s Canal (a national
historic site) built between 1854 and 1869 that runs
800m alongside The Battery Provincial Park. The Park
offers a variety of trails ending in spectacular views of
the town as well as the Ocean. St. Peter’s is among the
oldest European settlements in North America.
The village recently underwent a $1.3
million face-lift project and is home to a variety of
restaurant consisting of fine local cuisine, pub fare,
chip wagons, and even a Tim Horton’s. |

St. Peters sits at the gateway to the Bras D’Or Lake and is at the
beginning of Route 4, part of the scenic
route to Sydney. This is undergoing major investment in a
resurfacing and rebuilding program. As a strong fishing
community, St Peter’s is home to holiday fishing trips being offered
at certain times of the year. There are a
number of both ATV and snow-mobile trails the area, with a good
range of hunting options being available throughout the year.
The town has all the services and amenities expected of a thriving
hub, all within approximately 2km from the cottage. Larger retail
stores (Wal-Mart, Atlantic SuperStore, Canadian Tire, etc.) can be
found in Port Hawkesbury, a 25 minute drive from the cottage.
